I generally have similar worries for rather some time.
And in some sense I have similar personal situation to yours, though also somehow different. I spent most of my time in one of the Western Balkan countries (not a native here but I have a wife and a son here) where is reemergence of conflict not unimagable .
In case of conflict "just" inside of our country we could move to my native EU country.
but the answer to which myself I haven't an answer yet what to do is what to do in case of wider European war, which could potentially go NUCL.
in that case retreat to my home country doesn't help much. what are your thoughts/plans for such a case?
what sillently frustrates me for rather some time is, that I am afraid that my wife (which then also means our little son as well) wouldn't want to move until it is potentially too late as she is too connected to her family. besides that as a lawyer she can't work outside her country. so she is one of rare people from Balkans/Baltic, who would never move out . to be frank, I also do not know how/ from what we would live if we would in case of war for for instance move to South America.... but still, the bare survival is then the first priority.... what do you think?
As foreigners living in Estonia we have been discussing that on and off for the last 2 years (Madeira, Azores, Argentina, Paraguay, etc...)
Our conclusion is that we are actually not interested to live in a multicultural country on the verge of societal collapse like France, nor is South America really an option for multiple reasons, ranging from familial to residency permits.
Also, you can't forever run from potential risks. That how so many preppers waste decades of their life. At some point, a place with friends and land you know and cultivate is probably better than pseudo-nomadism.
Looking at risks should not turn into an obsession either.
If there is a war, I expect we will be quickly annexed frankly. And we will just go through it as nobody civilians. Our ancestors made it through the 30 years war, the world wars and so on.
If it gets nuclear, well, **** I guess. Either Tallinn is nuked (unlikely, its very small and irrelevant) and we are done instantly. Or it is only St Petersburg, and well, we will see then I guess. At least, low population density and stable society will still be an asset.
Honestly, being close to family is maybe better than running away, your wife family could be a great asset there.
It is bit more messy in the Balkans's case, because the danger might indeed not be tanks and jets, and more inter-ethnic mess, which I would not want to stay around. So if that's what you are seeing coming, I would indeed look for a location B
speed of the strengthening of the provocations is alarming and to be frank I am stuck in not not knowing what to do in order to save our bare lives if major European (nucl) war comes into play...

unfortunately I do not see it as simple as you (but more dangerous) but I didn't have time to reply as needed
also, I didn't know you are all foreigners, which makes situation potentially even more dangerous for you than I would thought at a first glance
if you are all foreigners, there is even a higher chance that someone will perceive you as foreign agents...

https://asiatimes.com/2024/04/us-troops-in-moldova-in-emerging-plan-b-for-ukraine/
"in Europe right around the 2 to 3pm time frame, Secretary of State Blinken, stated the Ukraine would become a member of NATO as soon as July maybe."
“Ukraine will become a member of NATO. Our purpose at the summit is to help build a bridge to that membership"
they are directly and obviously intentionately provoking Russia into a larger war, as that was the main reason for start of tragic Ukrainian war...
